Test and Verification of Vortex Shedding for a 3D bluff body

چکیده
Testing of a 3D bluff body with and without end plate tabs was performed in the California Polytechnic State University 3x4 ft low speed wind tunnel. The CP values were obtained for the test case with no end plate tabs for speeds of 10, 15, 20, and 30 m/s. It was observed that stronger vortex shedding ocured at the higher speed test cases. The model was shimmed to be at approximately 5° angle of attack in order to obtain symmetrical negative CP spikes for the top and bottom of the model without tabs. Trends were observed and compared to trends previously noted in Jarred Pinn’s thesis. The baseplate was replaced with one that contained tabs along the spanwise direction, and it was observed that the vortex shedding was eliminated with the addition of the base plate tabs. The data obtained confirmed previous trends seen that tabs resulted in reduced drag and elimination of vortex shedding at the top and bottom of the model base.

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder
In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...
متن کاملAcceleration of Bluff Body Calculation Using Mdgrape-2
Bluff body calculation was accelerated by using a special-purpose computer, MDGRAPE-2, that was exclusively designed for molecular dynamics simulations. The three main issues were solved regarding the implementation of the MDGRAPE-2 on vortex methods. These issues were the efficient calculation of the Biot-Savart and stretching equation, the optimization of the table domain, and the round-off e...

The shedding process of the Kármán vortices at the trailing edge of a 2D hydrofoil at high Reynolds numbers is investigated. The focus is put on the effect of the cavitation on the vortex street morphology. A direct insight is also provided on the role of the structural vibration on the cavitation inception. The shedding frequency, derived from the measurement of flow induced vibration, is foun...

An exponentially convergent observer is designed for a linearized Ginzburg-Landau model of vortex shedding in viscous flow past a bluff body. Measurements are restricted to be taken collocated with the actuation which is applied on the cylinder surface. The observer is used in conjuction with a state feedback boundary controller designed in previous work to attenuate vortex shedding. Simulation...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of the Incompressible Laminar Flow Over a Square Cylinder
Simulation of fluid flow over a square cylinder can be performed in order to understand the physics of the flow over bluff bodies. In the current study, incompressible laminar flow over a confined square cylinder, with variable blockage factor has been simulated numerically, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The focus has been on vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of the cylinder. Vorticity...
